2002 Kirrihill Estates Clare Valley Shiraz

The 2002 Vintage in Clare was exceptional. Cool spring weather and good rainfall, coupled with an unusually cool summer resulted in a late start for the vintage. The Kirrihill winery is of particular interest, in that it consists of a roofed area and a section of canvas canopies, but is without walls. There are some benefits to this type of winery, the obvious one being the cost savings. An unexpected benefit, to the layman at least, results from the fact that the equipment is exposed to UV light, which tends to kill off a lot of unwanted microbes that find their way into wineries. A superb Clare Valley Shiraz. Opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Aroma of mocha, liquorice, blackberry, vanilla and black pepper, showing strong varietal character. The palate is loaded with ripe fruit flavours, ripe plum and blackberry are followed by vanilla, spice and liquorice. Fine grained tannins, perfectly balanced with white pepper emerging in the background. Very long aftertaste of black pepper, plum, vanilla and spice.
A Classic Shiraz from Clare!
