GRANT BURGE is one of the ‘larger than life’ winemakers who since establishing his operations in the Barossa Valley has won nearly every major trophy and medal possible. The Filsell Shiraz is one of his benchmark wines which has been sourced from eighty year old vines grown at Lyndoch. The use of American oak which has become the stamp of many a Barossa vigneron is evident yet balanced.40% new American oak has been employed with the remainder of the wine matured in 1 & 2 year old barrels. This gives the wine its vanillin character while still allowing the fruit to express itself. Indeed, Burge describes this wine as an essay in raspberry, plum and spice.
An outstanding Shiraz from Grant Burge. Totally opaque black purple colour with very good cling. Perfumed nose, with aroma of violets liquorice allsorts, vanilla and blackberry. Full bodied palate. Flavours of vanilla, spicy oak, toast, plum, blackberry and liquorice. Pronounced black pepper back palate, followed by a very long aftertaste of spice, vanilla and liquorice allsorts.
