2002 Dom Ruinart Champagne Brut

Stunning!

Produced from 100% Chardonnay sourced solely from the Grands Crus vineyards (72% Côte des Blancs (predominantly Chouilly and Avize) and 28% from the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims (predominantly Sillery and Puisieulx).

Pours very well opening with a frothy white mousse that shows good persistence. Once dissipated it reveals a pale gold base wine colour with an exceptionally fine and very profuse bead. The nose provides a superb complex sniff of toast, yeast lees and brioche followed by some subtle pear and citrus with some light cashew end notes. Quite rich and creamy showing excellent complexity and refinement the palate opens with toasty characters, yeast lees and brioche followed by some light hazelnut and a hint of citrus which keeps the palate fresh. Clean dry finish with very long persistent aftertaste of toasty yeast lees, baked bread and subtle hazelnut.
Drink over 5-6 years.
