2002 Diplomatico Single Vintage Rum (700ml)

The result of a single crop, distilled in a combination of old copper pot stills and a batch kettle. The rum is aged in bourbon casks and x-single malt barrels for approximately 12 years before finishing in old sherry casks. The 2002 bottling completes a triptych of Venezuelan vintages with the next release expected to be several years away. Impressively packaged in a reverse tapered bottle, with a heavy set base and a cork inset into a weighty high quality metal stopper.

Tasting note: The glossy, deep copper colour is a pleasure to behold. Initially reticent with subsequent passes yielding a slow cascade of dessert styled aromatics opening as raw sugar / molasses with aeration adding sponge cake, dates and vanilla slice; Five minutes ups the intensity and accents sticky date pudding, creme caramel and later hints at toffee apple and cinnamon. Creamy entry with flavours of raw sugar, molasses, vanilla and cinnamon to the fore. Finish is gently warming, finely balanced, with cinnamon and dates echoing in the aftertaste. 43% Alc./Vol.
