2002 De Bortoli Windy Peak Sangiovese

De Bortoli are working hard to extract maximum flavour for this wine. The grapes have been cold soaked in order to maximize colour – Sangiovese can be less than crimson and more brick red in colour. The wine has spent extended time on skins as well as only minimal amounts of handling and fining. Very deep crimson colour and brick red hue. Perfumed nose of confectionary, violets and spice with a slightly floral end note. The palate has excellent weight and mouth feel, followed by a very warm and spicy back palate with an almost hot sensation being experienced. Fine dry tannins, well balanced followed by an aftertaste of spice and confectionary with the warm back palate sensation persisting.
