We tasted this wine some months ago and whilst we were impressed, (it scored 91/100), it wasn’t quite the wine we remembered from earlier barrel sample tastings. A few months in the bottle and this wine has blossomed, showing great lift on the nose and more palate weight.
Deep crimson colour with crimson mauve hue. Perfumed nose of violets, spice and cherry with just a hint of game – showing distinct varietal character. The palate has good weight and mouthfeel, with the power wave beginning to build. Flavours of clove, cherry and spice followed by a hint of game and stalk on the back palate. Velvet smooth tannins. Aftertaste of cherry and spice.
Cellar 3-4 years (2008-2009)
Alc/Vol: 14.0%

Second tasting, May 2005:
This wine is beginning to evolve and should continue to do so. Deep crimson colour with almost black crimson heart. The nose displays very good varietal character. Aroma of black cherry, violets, spice and strawberry followed by a hint of toasted oak. The palate has very good weight, with flavours of earth, game, cherry and spice emerging. Fine grained, perfectly balanced tannins. Moderate power wave. Aftertaste of spice and black cherry.

First tasting, May 2005:
Phillip Moraghan continues to produce high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The colour is outstanding, revealing deep crimson over a crimson mauve hue. The nose displays good varietal lift, with top notes of black cherry, spice, plum and cloves. The palate is generous, with ripe fruit flavours dominant – plum, blackberry, cloves and spice are supported by velvet smooth tannins and a touch of liquorice on the back palate. Moderate power wave, and a long evolving aftertaste of cherry, plum and spice.
