Coldstream Hills was planted in 1985 by James Halliday with the planting of 5 hectares of vines, on the steep slopes of the Amphitheatre and House Block vineyards. The first release was a mere 450 cases. Today the operation is a part of the Southcorp group, with James still living on the property and consulting back to the company. Brilliant straw colour. Aroma of biscuit, yeast lees, cashews and hazelnut giving the nose a sophisticated sniff. The palate reveals generous flavours with spice, toasted oak, melon, fig, cashews and yeast lees emerging. Mouthfilling palate with creamy texture. Clean acid finish, followed by a very long aftertaste of spicy oak, melon and fig with just a hint of grapefruit and hazelnut evident.
