2002 Clarendon Hills Moritz Vineyard Syrah (1500ml)

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$170. 00
Bottle
$2040.00 Dozen
Closure: Cork

26 year old, dry farmed Syrah vines produce the grapes for this wine. As with all the Clarendon Hills wines, the yields are kept low, and in 2002, only old oak barriques were used during maturation.

Tasting Note: Totally black purple colour with purple hue. Intense aroma of violets, spice, blackberry and cassis followed by spearmint and a hint of leather. The palate is totally concentrated with strong coffee, liquorice and plum flavours over a very distinctive white pepper background. Fine dry tannins, perfectly balanced to the fruit with long aftertaste of confectionary, white pepper and spice.
Cellar 8-10 years (2011-2013)

Robert Parker's Review
The meaty, earthy-styled 2002 Syrah Moritz Vineyard boasts fabulous concentration, wonderful density, a saturated purple color, and notes of creosote, acacia flowers, blackberries, and cassis. It comes across as an Australian version of a hypothetical blend of 50% Cornas and 50% Hermitage. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and enjoy it over the following 15+ years.
