Since the 1975 vintage, winemaker John Glaetzer has been responsible for crafting the Wolf Blass Grey Label Cabernet Sauvignon from Langhorne Creek. Affectionately nicknamed the ‘baby black’, the Wolf Blass Grey Label draws on the Wolf Blass Black Label winemaking philosophy - to create the best wine from the fruit available while displaying the varietal and regional characteristics from each vintage.

Fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from several of the well-established vineyards located at Langhorne Creek. A region renowned for its deep, rich alluvial soil and maritime influence, it consistently produces fruit to create wines with great richness and enormous depth of flavour. The 2001 vintage conditions were excellent in Langhorne Creek. Good winter rains started the season well, with the Bremer River swelling and flood irrigating some of the older vineyards. The months prior to harvest, January – February, were very warm ensuring fruit of ideal colour and flavour.

Tasting Note: Deep red in colour. On the nose a bouquet of rich berry fruit is surrounded by hints of spice, eucalypt/mint and is complexed by dark chocolate aromas. The palate is seamless with well-integrated soft tannins, subtle vanillin oak characters and a long lingering finish.
Will benefit from careful cellaring for five to eight years (2009-2012)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
