The Taltarni Vineyard was planted in 1969, with the wines creating considerable market interest, particularly with then connections to Chateau Lafite. Dominique Portet has since moved on to start up his wine operations (based from the Yarra Valley). The new team at Taltarni has softened the tannin structure considerably. Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue with just a hint of brick red evident. Appealing nose of cedar, spice and violets, followed by end notes of blackcurrant and white pepper, followed by a touch of mint. The palate displays flavours of violet infusions, cedar, mint and chocolate, with just a touch of pencil shavings emerging on the back palate. Fine grained, dry tannins with very long aftertaste of blackcurrant, chocolate spice and mint.
