This is the twelfth Indent offer of a Petaluma Coonawarra Merlot. The 2001 Coonawarra vintage was the warmest on record at 1605oC days versus the long term average of 1414oC days for the seven month growing season. The fruit is sourced from Petaluma’s Evans and Sharefarmers Vineyards. The wine was matured for a period of 20 months in new Nevers and Alliers oak barriques and was bottled without filtration.
Tasting Notes: Petaluma Merlot have a consistency of style and quality that is almost unique in Australia. This is an outstanding red. Bright, crimson mauve colour with mauve hue. Medium body. Superb nose with perfumed lift of violets, mulberry, blackcurrant, spice and cedar followed by a marzipan endnote. The palate has excellent weight, with spice, mulberry and dark chocolate flavours evident. Refined palate structure, with exceptional length and aftertaste. Perfect balance, with aftertaste of chocolate, mulberry and cedar.
