The Bin 28, like the Bin 128 was part of a stable of experimental wines developed by Max Schubert in 1962. The wine took its name from the Kalimna Vineyard which is located in the Barossa Valley and purchased by the company in 1945. Today the Kalimna vineyard is the source of only a small portion of the fruit for this excellent wine.
The wine was matured for 12 months in used American oak. Opaque black purple colour, with black purple hue. Impressive nose, with aroma of black pepper, spice, mocca, liquorice and violets. The palate has a much tighter structure than in previous years that will fare well for many years. Flavours of mocca, spice and black pepper emerge, followed by plum, liquorice and vanilla. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance. Very long aftertaste with vanilla, spice and mocca.
Cellar 5-6 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 14.0%

Retasted: 30th October 2010
This red along with a number of other 2001’s recently tasted (Wirra Wirra McLaren Vale Shiraz, Penny’s Hill Shiraz & Dowie Doole Reserve Shiraz to name a few) are all evolving very well. The wines have softened out but still possess the voluptuous fruit that was a characteristic of this warmer vintage. Opaque black dark red colour with very deep dark brick red hue. The nose displays perfumed aromas of blackberry, mocha, stewed plum and liquorice with just a touch of earthy leather beginning to emerge. Velvet smooth in texture the palate still possesses plenty of opulent fruit with flavours of blackberry, liquorice, mocha and vanilla followed by some leather on the back palate. Silky smooth tannins with long aftertaste of mocha, blackberry, liquorice and new leather.
A wine in its peak drinking window – drink over the next 2 years (2010-2012)
Alc 14%
