Whilst there are a growing number of consumers that have become disenchanted with Chardonnay, forming the loose group going by the name of ABC (Anything But Chardonnay.) There is also another group that has discovered the joys of Chardonnay made in a more complex style than has been evident with commercial wines. The simple primary fruit flavours of peach and tropical fruit have been pushed aside to produce Chardonnays of wonderful complexity. Wines such as Giaconda, Curly Flat and Leeuwin Estate Art Series are world class examples. The Howard Park is a welcome addition to the clan.
A complex Chardonnay matured in French oak. Bright straw colour. The nose is intense with aroma of butterscotch, honeysuckle, yeast lees, fig and melon. Creamy texture with spicy oak meshed with yeast lees and layers of citrus, melon and fig. Excellent length. Crisp acidity and long spicy lemon aftertaste.
