Located high in the ranges east of the Barossa Valley, the Mount Edelstone vineyard (meaning gemstone), was planted early in the twentieth century on the eastern slopes of the hill of the same name.
A very classy wine, produced from 90 year old ungrafted vines and matured for 21 months in French and American oak. Very deep crimson colour with a black heart. Medium body. The nose is refined, quite perfumed. Aroma of violets, blackberry, spice, plum and cedar – a refined sniff. The palate is quite spicy, with flavours of plum, spice and confectionary followed by a long white pepper back palate. Perfect balance, with fine grained tannins. Very long aftertaste of confectionary, white pepper, plum and spice.
Cellar 4-5 years (2008-2009)
Alc/Vol: 14.0%

Robert Parker's Review
The magnificent 2001 Mount Edelstone (100% Eden Valley Shiraz) boasts a dense purple color in addition to a gorgeous perfume of blackberry liqueur, white flowers, and toasty, subtle wood. Underbrush, pepper, and licorice also make an appearance. With great intensity, a multilayered, opulent personality, and plenty of structure, tannin, fruit and extract, this beauty should be cellared for 2-3 years, and drunk over the following 10-15.
