The 2001 Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc should maintain its position as one of Australia's best examples of this fruit-driven style. A 50:50 blend, it gains vibrancy and fruit intensity from the Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, and depth and weight and a touch of complexity from its Clare Valley semillon. There are some intensely perfumed lychee and gooseberry characters on the nose: it is fresh and lively and satisfying in the mouth with tangy gooseberry characters and some grassy, minerally notes. The 2001 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc has a taut structure, great concentration of flavour and a crisp, dry, rapier-like acidity. It may need a couple of months to settle down but will be fabulous summer drinking.
