2001 Goundrey Unwooded Chardonnay

This wine poses an interesting marketing dilemma which we must say causes us some concern. The back label outlines the fact that Goundrey is situated at Mount Barker in Western Australia. There is even a map of the region and the winery address and capsule spell out in no uncertain terms that Goundrey is a Mount Barker company. Then the words appear, and some might say innocently, “Fruit for our Unwooded Chardonnay is sourced from premium grape growing areas.” However, no mention of where their areas might be – yet the inference remains that it is somewhere in Western Australia, however, that assurance can not be given. We think it high time that specific statements about a grapes origins were made.

Bright pale straw colour. Straightforward nose of peach, spice and tropical fruit. On the palate, peach and tropical fruit flavours. A fruit driven style, slightly fruity. Clean acid finish, followed by peach and tropical fruit aftertaste. Drink.
