2001 Giant Steps Pinot Noir

Yarra Valley, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
$19. 99
Bottle
$239.88 Dozen
Closure: Cork

There are many good qualities in this Pinot Noir, however, it has quite a way to go before it becomes one of the stars. On the other hand the Chardonnay is very impressive. The reason for this is due to the youth of the vineyard, with Chardonnay grapes performing better earlier, whilst the Pinot vines need to be at least 7 years old and have some heartwood development.

The colour is excellent. Deep crimson with deep crimson hue. The nose is smoky, with a touch of bacon, dark cherry and spice, followed by a subtle stalky end note. On the palate, the toasted oak flavour comes to the forefront, followed by a layer of spice, liquorice and cherry. Very dry tannins, with some bitterness emerging on the back palate. No power wave to be seen, and only modest depth of flavour. Cherry, spice aftertaste.
