2001 Galli Estate Shiraz

Rockbank, Victoria, AUSTRALIA
$19. 99

$239.88 Dozen
Closure: Cork

We first tasted this wine in September 2002 and whilst it scored an impressive 91/100 we felt the wine needed to spend more time in the bottle in order to fill out the palate. Wine tasted shortly after bottling can lose approximately 25% of its fruit character due to bottle shock – this is regained over a 3-6 month period, when the full potential of the wine can be restored. The wine was retasted recently and it has indeed recovered from bottle shock.
Tasting Notes: Totally opaque black purple colour. The nose oozes notes of generous ripe fruit. Aroma of liquorice, spice, blackpepper and blackberry followed by a vanillin oak end note. The palate has filled out and matches the weight and voluptuous quality of the 2000 Shiraz. Big joosy blackberry, spice and blackpepper flavours – mouthfilling with that eagerly sought after voluptuous quality. Flavours of blackpepper fill the palate. Excellent balance with exceptionally long liquorice blackpepper aftertaste.

First Tasted: September 2002
This wine has spent 12 months in French and American oak. Opaque, black purple colour. Delightful nose, with hints of violets, blackberry and spice. The palate has good weight, but without the voluptuous quality of the 2000 wine. Generous flavours of white pepper and blackpepper, followed by plum, spice, liquorice and dark chocolate. Fine grained tannins, followed by very long aftertaste of spice and blackpepper.
Cellar 3-4 years (2005-2006).
