2001 d'Arenberg The Hermit Crab Marsanne Viognier

d’Arenberg are very enthusiastic about pursuing Rhone varietals in McLaren Vale, and their new varietals offer the wine lover plenty of flavour. Bright, deep straw colour. The nose is lifted and quite aromatic, with exotic notes emerging. Ripe tropical fruit notes are followed by a hint of spice and paw paw. After a minute, the Viognier exerts itself and emerges as a delicate top note. The palate has weight with generous mouthfeel but is a touch broad. The paw paw and spice characteristics are dominant and linger onto the aftertaste.
