The 2001 Coriole Shiraz demonstrates the style of the vintage. Wine lovers who are also collectors will find many outstanding wines to choose from, however, those drinkers wishing for a quick maturing wine will find many of their favourites even amongst the Commercial wines to have much firmer tannin structure than they might be expecting. This is a good attribute and also presents drinkers with a ‘bob each way’ opportunity - drink a few bottles with a meal (that is the proviso as the impact of some of the tannins will be reduced) and put a few others away for the future.

The 2001 vintage reds have received lower scores than their potential would indicate, and the reason for this is due to their lack of complexity and intensity of aroma, together with their generally firmer tannin structure. The Winespider system assesses the wine on their present aroma and flavour profile rather than their future potential. This is a vintage that deserves very serious attention and we believe will emerge stronger than the 98.

The 2001 Coriole Shiraz is totally opaque in colour. The nose is a touch restrained at this stage but will build as the wine evolves over time. Delicately perfumed nose with notes of spice, violets and ripe plum. The palate displaysgenerous ripe fruit flavours which are perfectly balanced by a firm tannin backbone. Flavours of ripe plum, blackberry, blackpepper and liquorice emerge and persist long into the aftertaste where again the tannins are present - very fine, firm and persistent.
