Historically, the Brookman vineyard has been considered to produce the best of the Clarendon Hills Merlot. The vines are 25 years old and yield around 2.5 tonnes per acre. Again grown on clay soils, the wine has been matured in French oak barriques. 75% new and 25% one year old. Roman considers this wine his “French” style of Merlot, whereas the Hickinbotham has an Italian inspired background.

Tasting Note: The colour is excellent, with deep crimson mauve purple complexion. The nose is very Bordeaux like, validating Roman’s view point. Superb aroma of violets, mulberry, blueberry, cedar, truffle and earth. The structure is elegant and refined, yet packed with ripe fruit. Layers of mulberry and spice are interlaced with plums, cedar and truffle. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance, followed by a very long, plum, mulberry and spice aftertaste.
