The 2001 vintage of Sauternes was exceptional. The Growers of Sauternes have described the vintage as an ‘extraordinary harvest.’ Botrytis began to develop in the vineyard in late September and quickly affected the Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The clean warm October weather, assured a perfect vintage. Berenice Lurton, owner of Chateau Climens described the wines as ‘rich and powerful, but have wonderful harmony.’ Charles Chevallies, technical director of Chateau Rieussec stated that ‘a vintage like this does not come around very often - it’s the best I have ever seen in my career.’

The 2001 Chateau Haut Bergeron is the first of the 2001 Sauternes to arrive in Australia. Bright, deep golden colour. Classic Sauternes. Superb nose, showing great concentration. Intense notes of honey, apricot, nougat and spice. The palate displays wonderful concentration with layers of honey, hints of lemon, apricot and peach juice, nougat and ripe raisins. Clean finish, with very long aftertaste of spice, honey, raisins and apricots.
