The Grenache vines which winemaker Rick Burge, used to make this wine were planted in the 1920’s, and like Roman Bratasuik’s Clarendon Hills Grenache wines, they take on a dimension that is not found in younger vines. This is a giant of a wine, with an alcohol content of 15.5%, yet shows no sign of back palate ‘heat’. Deep crimson colour with deep crimson mauve hue. The nose is superb, and lifts immediately to reveal aroma of liquorice, liquorice strap, raspberry and mocha. The palate has an explosion of fruit flavours, expressed with power. Mouthfilling flavours of raspberry, liquorice, black pepper and spice fill the palate, and are echoed onto a back palate of liquorice and plums. Velvet smooth mouth feel with wonderful concentration and persistence. Perfect balance followed by an exceptionally long aftertaste of liquorice and spice.
