2001 Brindabella Hills Shiraz
Brindabella Hills is a family owned winery run by Roger and Faye Harris. Established in 1986, the vineyard lies 25 kilometres north west of Canberra on the escarpment of the Murrumbidgee River and is the culmination of a life-long interest in wine stimulated by several visits to the premium wine growing areas of Europe and America. The vineyards location is significant in that the mountains of the Brindabella Range to the west, and hills to the south, form a natural ‘warm pocket’, enabling the vineyard to capitalize on the climatic advantages of a warm site in an otherwise cool district.
Tasting Notes: This is an excellent Shiraz from Canberra. Very deep crimson colour, with deep crimson hue. The nose is impressive, displaying perfumed aroma of spice and violets followed by hints of cedar and blackcurrant over a blackpepper background. The palate structure displays elegance whilst demonstrating considerable power. Flavours of blackpepper and spice are integrated over a layer of cherry and plum. Velvet smooth tannin, followed by an exceptionally long aftertaste of spice, blackpepper and white pepper.
