The ‘poor man’s Grange’ is priced more like a professional man’s Grange these days, but none the less represents excellent value and displays a classic 389 flavour profile. Matured for 14 months in American oak, including some Grange hand-me-down barrels, the wine displays a very deep crimson colour with a brick red hue – this is the disappointing aspect of the wine. The nose is perfumed with aroma of plum, spice and vanilla over a distinct dark chocolate, spice and blackcurrant endnotes. The palate flavours are generous, mouthfilling, with flavours of liquorice, plum, vanilla, spice and blackcurrant supported by a finely grained tannin structure Perfect balance, with much more subtle use of oak than the Bin 28.
Cellar 4-5 years (2007-2008)
