An outstanding wine, however, without the depth of the 1997, which is due to vintage variation. Very deep crimson mauve colour. The nose displays aroma of spice, hints of liquorice, black pepper, blackberries and cedar. On the palate an abundance of flavour, dominated by spice, liquorice and blackberry. Perfect balance with fine grained tannins, and a very distinct blackpepper back palate which lingers onto the aftertaste for 3-4 minutes. This is the sort of quality and consistency that is the hallmark of a great viticultural district. Stocks are very limited. Excellent value for money.
