A generous wine, although without the weight of the 1998. Very deep crimson mauve colour. Aroma of earth and leather, followed by plum, spice, blackpepper and toasted oak. The wine has weight, but lacks the length and concentration of flavour expected of reds from this region. Fine grained, soft tannins, excellent balance, followed by a liquorice plum and spice aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.
