The ‘wine bug’ seems to capture everybody’s imagination, and controversial radio presenter Derryn Hinch and his partner Jacky, were no exception. The romantic notion of sitting on the verandah, watching the sun go down and sipping the wine from your own front yard seems irresistible- and it is for a while - until reality sets in. Derryn for all his faults is still a lovable character, and although he no longer has a vineyard, there is a quantity of 1999 Pinot that has surfaced. Made by Andrew Garrett, medium body, crimson colour. The nose displays subtle varietal character with cherry spice notes. The palate is full bodied, with cherry spice palate, good depth with some power emerging. Fine grained soft tannins and good length and aftertaste. At $20 a bottle the wine was good value, at $10, it’s a bargain. Derryn’s bad luck is your good fortune. STOCKS ARE LIMITED.
