It’s rather unusual to see an Australian wine released from a split vintage and labelled as such. The explanation would appear to be that there was insufficient Merlot to produce an individual wine, as most of it is used as a component of the Cabernet blend. The 1999/2000 Merlot reflects the amount of wine that is left over after the main blend was made.
Deep crimson mauve colour with purple edges. The nose is very impressive, with aromas of spice, mulberry and a violet end note. The palate is simpler than expected, with earthy spice flavour present, followed by a warm back palate. Fine grained firmish tannins followed by a spice and mulberry aftertaste. Cellar 3-4 years.
