In 1998 the Kays Amery Cabernet was the star with lesser marks being awarded to the Shiraz. In 1999 it’s the other way around. Opaque crimson colour with mauve edges. The nose is very impressive with lifted aroma of vanilla, violets, blackcurrant and liquorice with distinctly peppery end notes. On the palate the youthfulness of the Shiraz is revealed but without the inky iodine quality that young cool climate Shiraz seems to develop. Mouthfilling palate with plenty of flavour, blackpepper, ripe plums and vanilla are to be found in abundance. Perfect balance, followed by a very long spice, plum and blackpepper aftertaste. Cellar 4-5 years. Outstanding!
