1999 Gemtree Vineyards Shiraz

Paul and Jill Buttery have been growing vines for 30 years, but only recently decided to produce their own wine. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Buttery families 30 year old Tatachilla Road Vineyard and aged in a combination of American and French oak for 22 months. This is a very dense red. Opaque crimson mauve colour with a black heart. The nose is lifted, and displays intense aroma of liquorice, chocolate and spice with just a hint of tar as an end note. Mouthfilling palate, concentrated with flavours of spice, liquorice, black pepper and tar. The tarry flavour component reveals a degree of coarseness to the wine. Fine grained tannins with long tar, liquorice and ripe plum aftertaste. Cellar 4-5 years.
