The distinguishing feature of the Curly Flat Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is that both wines have very distinctive varietal character and have developed a style that is Burgundian, but varies only slightly according to the vintage. The 1999 Pinot Noir displays deep crimson colour with deep crimson brick red hue – an impressive start. The nose is distinctive, with strong varietal notes of dark cherry, strawberry and spice over a layer of subtle toasted oak and stalk. The palate flavours are mouthfilling with hints of aniseed meshed with toasted oak, dark chocolate and strawberry, followed by a hint of game on the back palate. There is a considerable spicy character to the wine, which is enhanced by velvety smooth tannin. Very long aftertaste with subtle stalk, dark cherry, plum and spicy oak.
