Chateau du Cros is situated on the opposite bank of the Garonne river to Sauternes. The line drawing of the Chateau which appears on the label, is an outline of the profile, of the now near derelict building. The Chateau was occupied by the Nazi’s during the Second World War, and they tore down the timber structure using it for firewood. Today, as you stand on top of the hill at Chateau du Cros, you can see the legendary Chateau d’Yquem, on the opposite bank. Michel Boyer maintains that in great years, Chateau du Cros can produce as good a wine as anyone from the other side of the river. One night at dinner, he opened a bottle of 1927 Chateau du Cros and compared next to a 1927 Chateau d’Yquem. He made his point!
Tasting Note: Medium crimson colour. Aroma of earth, truffle, coffee and mocha, with a smoky background. The palate is quite dry with mocha, liquorice and spice flavours persisting. Stewed fruit, mocha aftertaste. Cellar 2-3 years.
