1999 Bannockburn Chardonnay

A very sophisticated wine, vintaged from a very good year in the Geelong district. Yields for Chardonnay were down, however the flavours are more concentrated. Bright pale gold colour. Intense aromas, displaying very complex Burgundian character. Aroma of biscuit, hazelnut, almond, spicy oak, yeast lees and subdued butterscotch end notes. The palate continues to reflect the character of the nose, with mouthfilling flavours and layers of complexity. Dry, with primary fruit flavours in the background, over layers of aniseed, hazelnut, arrowroot biscuit, smoked almonds and toasted oak. Outstanding length and persistence. Very long smoky, lees aftertaste. Cellar 4-5 years.
