Made from 80 year old Grenache vines this wine represents remarkable value for money and has also been a consistent performer over the years. The wine has a 10% Shiraz component.Deep mauve colour with purple crimson overtones. Aromas of liquorice, raspberry and spice followed by a blackberry end note. Not quite as lifted as expected! The palate comes to the rescue with strong spice and raspberry flavours and a very pronounced black pepper back palate. Fine, yet firmish tannins, yet still well balanced, followed by a long raspberry, berry, pepper aftertaste. An excellent full bodied style. Cellar 5-8 years.

Retasted August 2000

Outstanding colour. Deep common mauve purple colour. Excellent aroma and distinctly recognisable as Grenache. Cherry, raspberry, liquorice and spice aromas fill the nose. On the palate, generous ripe flavours emerge, dominated again by distinct cherry, raspberry and liquorice spice flavour. Excellent balance, fine grained soft tannin structure. A great early drinking wine.
