1998 Tyrrell's Rufus Stone McLaren Vale Shiraz

1998 was another excellent year in McLaren Vale with lower yields and good weather resulting in ripe concentrated fruit. The wine was matured for 15 months in a combination of American and French oak barriques. This is an outstanding red, however, overshadowed yet again by the Heathcote Shiraz, which displays greater palate intensity, persistence and aftertaste. Opaque crimson purple colour. The nose is a touch restrained with aromas of spice, vanilla, confectionery and plum with a stewed fruits and liquorice end note. Excellent palate weight with flavours of plum and blackberry dominant. Fine dry tannins, very well balanced, followed by a long plum, blackberry, stewed fruit and earth aftertaste. Cellar 5-8 years.
