Shantell Vineyard was established in 1981 and has had its ups and downs but never managed to capture the Yarra Valley high ground. Situated at Yarra Glen, just up the road from De Bortoli, the property belongs to two medico’s Dr’s Shan and Turid Shanmugam. 10 hectares are planted with approximately 50 tonnes being processed annually.
Yarra Valley Shiraz can be a bit tricky to ripen, but when it succeeds it’s outstanding. This is a well made wine that exhibits good varietal character. Medium body, crimson mauve colour. The nose displays earthy notes with spice and a touch of leather overlaying notes of blackberries, vanilla and marzipan. The palate shows flavours of plum and stewed fruits. Velvet smooth tannins followed by aftertaste of plum and stewed fruit.
