A very well made full bodied Chardonnay. Bright deep straw colour. Aromas of butterscotch and spice followed by a background of vanillan oak and nut. Mouthfilling spicy vanilla, cinnamon, peach and oak flavours with a buttery texture. The cinnamon flavour is dominant yet is supported by ripe spicy peach flavours which linger onto the aftertaste.

Winemakers notes: The Saltram Classic Range showcases the world's six classic grape varieties. Reflecting the best flavours and qualities of each grape the wines represent Saltram's total dedication to quality winemaking since 1859.Selected fruit from some of the best Chardonnay vineyards in South Australia have been used for this wine. The fruit was picked quite early in the season in order to retain freshness and a good level of acidity. 1998 provided a good crop of high quality fruit across most regions within South Australia. The wine was made in the classic fashion of modern Australian Chardonnay with a well-handled but minimal use of oak. The wine was fermented cool to retain the natural vibrant fresh fruit character. A small percentage of the wine underwent malo-lactic fermentation to soften the palate and enhance complexity. This is a classic example of young, fresh, crisp Australian white wine with a good deal of complexity.Pale straw yellow colour. The wine has lifted varietal fruit characters of citrus and stone fruit and pear on the nose coupled with a hint of toasty oak derived characters. On the palate the wine is full flavoured with rich, fruit-driven flavours. The wine finishes with well balanced harmonious acidity. Cellar 1-3 yearsSuggested food: The richness of this wine means it is perfect with very flavoursome fish dishes or white meats. Grilled salmon or chicken would be perfect. 13.3 % alcohol volume.
