1998 Salomon Estate Finniss River Shiraz

Salomon Estate is a large property located on the Finniss River some twenty five miles South of McLaren Vale. The vineyards are situated on soils composed of gravel and sand over an orange sandstone base. Opaque crimson black colour. The nose displays good varietal character with aroma of vanilla, spice and ripe plum followed by end notes of earth and leather. The palate has good weight with earth and leather flavour components to the fore overlaying liquorice and plum. Firmish, dry tannins which persist onto the aftertaste followed by subtle inky after flavours and a trace of iodine. A very well made wine, however lacking some palate complexity.
