1998 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$120. 00
Bottle
$1440.00 Dozen
Closure: Cork

Stonewell Shiraz is the best, most concentrated Shiraz made at Peter Lehmann Wines each vintage and is released as a 5 year old. The Shiraz grapes are selected from low yielding Barossa vineyards where some of the vines are 100 years or older. The wine is barrel fermented and aged in French and American oak hogsheads for 18 months, then bottle matured for a further 3½ years prior to release.

A perfect Australian Shiraz, showing all the outstanding attributes that are so eagerly sought after by international wine lovers. The fruit for this wine was grown in the Greenock, Stonewell Siegersdorf, Moppa and Koonunga Hill regions of the Barossa valley.
Totally opaque black crimson colour. The nose is perfection providing a sublime sniffing experience. Perfectly integrated, perfumed notes of violets, dark chocolate confectionary vanilla spice and a hint of prune fill the head. The palate is a classic experience of Barossa Shiraz from a great vintage, with its superb voluptuous texture counter balanced by wonderfully ripe fruit flavours. Layers of dark chocolate, liquorice, plum, cedar, blackpepper and spice fill every corner, followed by back palate echoes of vanilla and mocca. Fine dryish tannins, just assertive enough to counter balance the richness of fruit, followed by an exceptionally long aftertaste of cedar, plum, liquorice and spice.
Cellar 5-8 years (2007-2010)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%

Other reviews... Medium to full red-purple; the potent, complex, powerhouse bouquet of prune, blackberry and earth, quality oak playing a support role, leads into a lush blackberry and licorice palate; exemplary structure, lingering ripe tannins and quality oak. 95 points
