BACKGROUNDThis wine was first launched in 1995, with the 1992 vintage, and was developed in part due to the growing interest in Rhone wine styles. The wine has been blended from 55% Shiraz, 25% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre.

VINTAGE CONDITIONSThere was some concern about the drought which brought upon a very dry winter. However, its impact was alleviated by 50mm of rain that fell in August. Unusual and rather rapid ripening conditions were brought about by a hot week late in February. Generally the ripening period was slow due to the mild conditions and cool evenings.

TASTING NOTESOpaque crimson mauve colour, with excellent colour-cling to the glass. The blend produces complex aromas, which are highly sought after by lovers of Rhone wines. Aroma of pepper and liquorice are to the forefront and followed by nuances of raspberry, stewed berries and spice. The wine has been matured in old hogsheads, and thus there is no new wood influence. Excellent weight, but with less complexity of flavour than might be expected. Palate flavours of plum and spice are followed by earth overtones with a liquorice background. Fine grained but dry tannin structure, with just a trace of bitterness on the end. Long, liquorice, earth aftertaste. Cellar 4-5 years.
