BACKGROUNDPenfolds Bin 128 was established in 1962 as part of Max Schuberts experimental red winemaking program. The Bin 128 is sourced entirely from Coonawarra fruit, and has traditionally been the lightest of the Penfolds reds – however, weight is not always the only attribute that one seeks out.

VINTAGE CONDITIONSRainfall during the growing period was below average. Dry, mild summer produced a disease free vintage, which has been compared with the 1990 vintage.

TASTING NOTEVery deep crimson mauve colour. The nose is relatively restrained and although subtle will evolve over the next 3 years. Aroma of dark chocolate, spice, blackcurrant, vanilla and a touch of white pepper in the background. This 1998 is fuller in body than the 1997, and displays flavours of spice, stewed fruits, ripe plum and chocolate with a blackpepper back palate. Fine grained tannin, with excellent length and persistence. Perfect balance of spice and blackpepper.
Cellar 5-8 years.
