Lindsay McCall produces complex Pinot Noir by using a variety of wine making techniques. This particular wine was made using some chilled pre fermented 'cold maceration' which helps to extract colour. 20% of the wine was made using whole bunch fermentation. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation and lees contact in new and one year old French Oak barriques. Deep crimson colour, medium bodied. Lifted nose of spice, cherry, strawberries, toasted troncais oak and a hint of mocca. Pronounced varietal palate flavours which grow on the palate with strong mocca, cherry and troncais oak flavours. Classic expansive Pinot Noir, however, without the body or super weight that the 1997 vintage displayed. This wine is stylistically similar to the 1995 vintage and is certainly without the stalky character of the 1996. Perfectly balanced, fine grained tannins, velvet smooth and very long cherry spicy oak aftertaste. Cellar 3-5 years.
