The Orlando Lawson's Padthaway Shiraz is one of the last super premium releases from the great 1998 vintage having been matured in new American oak hogsheads for 25 months and received a further 33 months bottle age prior to release.
Vintage conditions were ideal - warm summer temperatures with little rainfall preceded the vintage. Conditions during vintage, February to April, were warm and dry leading to intense colours and concentrated flavours. Produced entirely from the original 2.8 hectare Lawson's vineyard planted in 1968 in Padthaway, the barrel selection was rigorous with only the very finest barrels being used in the final wine.
TASTING NOTES: A superb example of shiraz showing very distinctive Padthaway terroir character. Opaque black purple colour. Superb nose, with delightful eucalypt spearmint top note, followed by strong blackcurrant, violet and dark chocolate end notes. The palate continues to echo the intensity of the nose with powerful liquorice, spearmint, spice and blackpepper flavours. The back palate is very peppery and persists long into the aftertaste. Fine dry, perfectly balanced tannins.
