The original Mount Ida vineyard was owned by artist Len French and is situated at Heathcote in Central Victoria. Until recently all the grapes for the Mount Ida Shiraz were sourced from Heathcote, however, with the 1998 vintage, the region is now stated as being Central Victoria. This is an impressive wine and has already been awarded two gold medals. Superb opaque, crimson colour with excellent cling to the glass. No mistaking the variety from the nose - distinct aromas of spice, blackpepper, ripe plum and blackcurrants with a vanilla oak end note. An excellent sniff. The palate does not fail the nose, with impressive weight and concentration of flavour - ripe plums, spice and blackberries are enhanced by mouthfilling confectionery and blackpepper end palate flavour. Fine grained, firm, but balanced tannins, followed by long confectionery, spice and blackpepper aftertaste. Cellar 8-10 years.LIMITED STOCKS.
