An absolute monster – Classic textbook Durif! Totally black opaque crimson colour. Superb nose, with that rare assembly of notes that is so distinguishable as Durif. Aromas of farmyard animals, inky iodine, crushed blood plums, vanilla and liquorice. A big sniff! The palate is counter pointed by immense tannin structure and berry concentrate. Flavours of farmyard and leather over iodine and freshly squeezed, over ripe blood plums. The tannins start making their presence felt on the back palate and build into a super dry grip that is just short of extracting skin off ones’ gums, but then the power of the fruit weighs in. Exceptionally long aftertaste of spice, iodine and inky plum. Cellar 15-20 years. An absolute blockbuster!
