Mount Pleasant Elizabeth exemplifies a classic Australian wine style – bottle aged Hunter Valley Semillon. Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillons are made to a consistently high level of quality, such that Elizabeth Semillon is recognised as the most consistently awarded white wine in Australia. The 1998 vintage will be long remembered by wine lovers for being one of the few exceptional vintages of the 20th century. Good autumn rains ensured an even and fruitful budburst and the textbook ripening conditions yielded rich, full flavoured fruit. The grapes were hand picked in February and crushed, de-stemmed and chilled immediately on receival at the winery. The free juice was drained off and cold settled for 48 hours prior to fermentation at very low temperatures. The slow fermentation protected the delicate fruit flavours creating the famous Elizabeth palate. The wine was blended, filtered and stabilised prior to bottling in July 1998.Straw coloured wine with green hues. An enticing mix of citrus, lemon sherbert, lanolin and toast aromas. A very generous wine on the palate with lemon and lanolin flavours predominating. The structure is still quite tight and delicate with a lovely complexity and fine acid balance. Cellar 6-10 years.Alcohol by volume: 10.5%
