1998 Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon

(Tasted in 2003) A wine that is aging superbly. Katnook barrel mature their wines much longer than other high end winemakers. This wine has spent 38 months in barrique. Very deep almost opaque crimson brick red colour. Magnificent nose of mocca, cedar and spice followed by a liquorice end note. The palate flavours are powerful, with mocca, dark chocolate, confectionary and liquorice allsorts filling the mouth, followed by a layer of dark plums and prunes. Very fine, refined tannin structure. Outstanding length. Perfect balance followed by a very long aftertaste of leather and truffle.
