A big, powerful Cabernet with a long future. Geoff Hardy uses a Balerina canopy system for growing these grapes and ensures that only the very best parcels are selected. The result is a highly concentrated wine. Opaque crimson mauve colour. Excellent nose with aroma of spice, cedar, toasted honey, oak, violets, confectionery and blackcurrants. Generous mouthfeel with young Cabernet ‘muscle’ - a wine built to cellar. Flavours of blackcurrant, cedar and liquorice are enhanced by dry and relatively firm tannins. Aftertaste of blackcurrants, plum and spice. Cellar 8-10 years.

RATING: 93/100

VALUE: XXXX/5

Retasted 19/03/2003: A sophisticated wine, made in the style of classic growth Bordeaux. Aroma of cedar and spice over layers of refined blackcurrant. The palate is drier than comparative Australian wines with flavours of cedar and truffle emerging over a blackcurrant background, followed by a hint of tea leaf on the back palate. Elegant palate structure, tight knit with fine dry tannins followed by a dry truffle aftertaste.
