1998 Cullen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

The 1998 Cullen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is a very sophisticated red that is structured for at least 10-15 years cellaring. Made from a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc and matured in a variety of new and aged French oak casks. In an attempt to create complexity and avoid excessive new oak, the barrel mix for this vintage is 20% new, 35% one year old and 45% two year old.Superb crimson colour with deep mauve edge. Magnificent nose - almost perfumed with aromas of violets, liquorice allsorts, blackcurrant, spice and a hint of truffle. Outstanding tight knit palate structure. Flavours of blackcurrant, spice and truffle. Firmish, dry tannins, perfectly balanced, with exceptionally long aftertaste of blackcurrant, liquorice, spice and blackpepper. Stocks are very limited.
